Team Camp

In this camp, MS split into two teams so that the
camp could have 16 total teams. Both teams did very
well. The wrestlers in blue t's are members of MS
Red. This team finished the camp with a 6-2 overall
record and second place. Team Red was defeated by
Team Blue in the finals. MS Blue is pictured in the
gold singlets. This team went 8-0 at camp and
defeated the Red team in the finals. The photo shows
both teams together with the first and second place
trophies. The Outstanding Wrestler for the Red Team
was Morgan Denson who was undefeated at camp.
Outstanding wrestler for the Blue team was Sheldon
Garcia who was also undefeated at camp. True Tough
Guy awards went to Michael Bos and Taylor Grueter. |

The Patriots had an outstanding weekend winning the
State Title for the 4th consecutive year. Only one
other team in modern wrestling history has matched
this run in class A history. From 1979-1982,
Columbus also won four consecutive titles.
During this year's tournament, the Patriots were
able to bring home 11 total medals of which 4 were
gold. The Patriots turned in the second best scoring
count in class A history behind the record setting
2006 Patriot team. This is the first year that the
Patriots put 6 wrestlers into the finals setting a
school record in the process.
Over the past 4 years, Millard South has put
together 43 medals which can't even be matched by
the awesome Skutt machine. In the last five years,
the Patriots have put together 50 total medals for a
five year average of 10 medals per year. This medal
count is unprecedented in modern day wrestling
history. In the last decade the Patriots have also
put together six total state trophies making MS the
TEAM of the decade.
This year's team put together an amazing run at
state leading the race wire to wire over a very
tough Kearney Team. Jake Besch had to defeat the
5th, 4th, 3rd and 2nd place medalist en route to his
championship; this may never have happened before in
wrestling history. His Championship match over Gil
Algood of Millard North was probably the best match
in the class A finals.
Nate Stender was able to become a 2x state champion
with a pin in the finals. Nate sets a Millard South
wrestling record for wins in a year at 45. Jake
Miller and Morgan Denson both dominated their
opponents while winning individual state titles.
Overall the team wrestled their best tournament of
the year at state. Leaving QWEST on Saturday, there
was no doubt who the best team in class A was for
2007-08!
